Chair Mary O’Shields called the meeting to order at 10:16 a.m.
Pledge of Allegiance: Bob Bodenhamer led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance
Minutes: Called for any changes to November minutes. Called for approval of minutes. Johnny Rickman made the motion. Bob Bodenhamer 2nd and all were in favor. November minutes were accepted.
Treasury Report: Karen Breton (Mike Breton)
Mike reported that as of the end of November 2024 and with ACT Blue contributions the ending balance is $7731.
Chair Update: Mary O’Shields
Mary started the meeting by introducing officers and new members to our meeting. Mary introduced the app 5 calls. This app lists issues to to call/email/mail to local, state and national legislators. Contacting our elected officials is important and does make a difference. Mary provided a sheet with our state and national officials that represent Arkansas and their information to be contacted.
She informed the group that we will be electing new committee members in the new year and to think of possible candidates. Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer will all be open, plus two delegates that represent the county at state DPA meetings and events.
School board elections will be the next local election-Mary asked people to be thinking ahead of candidates that would be valuable to MH school district.
Announcements:
Reminder that the January Meeting has been moved to January 11 at LA PALOMA. Joe Dillard will be speaking at that meeting.
Karen informed the group of a good follow-Jessica Craven writes a daily article on Substack called Chop Wood, Carry Water. Jessica writes that this newsletter is dedicated to saving democracy, addressing the climate crisis, preserving our freedoms, electing better lawmakers, and, in general, creating a better country—one simple action at a time. She writes on easy things each of us can do to make a difference. Hope is an action. Check it out here- https://chopwoodcarrywaterdailyactions.substack.com/
Mary updated the group about volunteer opportunities-Coulter Celebration of Lights is still needing some volunteers and the group collected monetary donations to adopt a local family through the LT Thrift Store at Mtn.Home High School.
