Karen reported that as of the end of July 2024 and with ACT Blue contributions the ending balance is $8363.19.

Update: $610 collected at this meeting and $220 for decency signs.

The campaign committee met to discuss campaign contributions to upcoming candidates. $1500 will be offered to each JP candidate.

Chair Update: Derek Huber

Derek updated the group on progress with the VAN program. VAN-lists are complete. Scripts just need to be finalized and will be finalized this week with Austin and Joann. Derek is excited about the upcoming campaign for JP district 7. He announced that he would be stepping down as chairman after September to devote more time to campaign and marketing efforts.

Discussion:

History and Education:  Mike Breton

Mike provided us with some trivia about the recent article he wrote about Joe Bodenhamer that was published on the website and sent to email. More articles are in the pipeline. Special Visitor Joe Dillard will be here in January.

Legislative Watch: Glenda Huffine

Glenda let the group know that the last day to register to vote is October 6th. Our state is making it more difficult to vote-canceling out voting stations, making absentee voting harder, etc. She has made some packets about how to vote, what you need etc. to get out into the community. Glenda, Johnny and Elizabeth updated the group on the state of the petition drives, as information is changing daily.

Glenda also made an excellent sign to highlight many great accomplishments that democrats have accomplished (this in response to a friend saying that democrats “don’t do anything”). This will be posted on the website.

Local Beat: JoAnn Baeten

JoAnn shared that the Mountain Home school board filled a new position, due to a member stepping down. Seven interested candidates came forward, with former board member Neal Pendergrass being selected. She also shared a recent article in the MH Observer regarding healthcare in Arkansas and the effects of cutting the child tax credit and how it will impact rural Arkansas.

Candidate reports:

Derek Huber-is excited about running for JP district 7. He has been working with a consulting team and DPA to look at data to win the seat. He is facing a newcomer. His website is set-up- huberforarkansas.com. There will be an act blue and one other donation site set up on his website for contributions.

Donnie Huffine-Donnie wants to spend campaign contributions on his JP district 3 run efficiently by using email and social media. He does have a facebook page setup and  has a copy of his bio for people who are interested.

Johnny Rickman-Johnny is running for JP district 3. He did not ask for any contributions from the committee last time and he would like to do the same this time. Johnny would like to put money where it could be used to make a difference/on races that democrats have a chance of winning.

Announcements:

Rodney Govens will be here during our September ( 9/7/24) meeting at the library. He is running for congress in Arkansas’ 1st Congressional District. He will  have signs for sale for $10.

Get excited for the FALL PARTY on OCTOBER 26th-Location-Back Forty with Mellow Mountain Band performing. More information to follow with ticket prices, times and speakers. Get excited!

Joe Dillard will be here in January to speak to the committee about the history of democrats in north Arkansas.

Decency 2024 signs are for sale. They can go up in the county at any time, but there are restrictions within city limits (60 days before election). See Karen Breton for purchase.
