Karen reported that as of the end of August 2024 and with ACT Blue contributions the ending balance is $7730.40.

Update: $1317.00 collected at this meeting and $300 for signs.

Chair Update: Derek Huber

Derek updated the group about upcoming Volunteer activities, with canvassing, phone banking and mailing postcards. PLEASE send us your email if you would like to help. We will be contacting everyone with more information. IF you help, we will guide you through the process. IF you would like to do postcards, speak with Derek directly.  Derek presented some merch he will have for sale for his campaign soon. He presented several motions for the committee (see below).

New Business:

Derek made a motion to allocate up to $1400 in funds for a digital billboard. 2nd by Johnny Rickman and passed by committee.  Discussion yielded several ideas. Digital sign is on 62 near Walmart in a high traffic area. Group liked having Harris/Walz 2024, Decency 2024, and/or local JP candidates listed.

Derek made a motion to allocate up to $500 for Harris/Walz yard signs. Motion was 2nd by Donnie Huffine and voted unanimously by the committee. Johnny Rickman and Glenda Huffine did update the group about other locations getting signs, so this will be something done quickly.

The floor was opened to nominations for a new chair. Mary O’Shields was nominated by Glenda Huffine. After discussion, Mary was voted in unanimously. Mary thanked the group and is excited to lead and learn. She also thanked Derek for his leadership over these last couple of years.

Special Speaker: Rodney Govens

Mr.Rodney Govens spoke to our group about his run for 1st Congressional District against Rick Crawford. His website is https://rodneyforcongress.org/. Rodney Govens stands on the statement-when you make it out, you pay it forward. He is a U.S. Army veteran, husband and father, and longtime Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children. He lives in Cabot with his wife and two children. Rodney is interested in representing his constituents ALL the time, and not just in election years. His platforms are discussed in length on his website, but he cares about all areas of the natural state-from the most rural areas to urban settings. While he’s out speaking to Arkansans across the state, Rick Crawford is suing the United States for a pay raise because his $174K salary is not enough.
