Chair Derek Huber called the meeting to order at 10:18 a.m.
Donnie Huffine: Pledge of Allegiance
Minutes: Derek showed everyone how to access the minutes on the website. Called for any changes to December minutes. No changes. Called for approval of minutes, Mike Breton made the motion, Johnny Rickman 2nd, all were in favor. The December minutes were accepted.
Treasury Report: Karen Breton: We have $6,483.16 in our account. December’s total donation was $746.50.
This is great as our monthly goal was to hit $500/month.
Update: We collected $445 in donations at this meeting.
Chair Update: Derek Huber
We would like to vote on a monthly advertising budget.
Donnie H: Makes a motion to allow for a discretionary fund up to $300 a month, not to accrue or rollover, to be used for office supplies or advertising as needed to promote the needs of the committee. Is there any discussion? Robert Shurley mentioned we may want to be careful with the wording to ensure that the $300 can be used for anything and this was agreed upon by everyone in attendance that the intent of this would be used at the discretion of the board for the needs of the committee. Paulette 2nd the motion. All in favor, no nays. Motion passes.
Derek went over a few reminders including our communications goals and objectives, and the process for our committees. We also use the app, Slack, for our communication. If anyone needs help with this please let us know and we are happy to help. We currently have the following committees: History & Education, Legislative Watch, Local Beat, and Election Committee.
New Business/Discussions: In February we would like to seek nominees for a new Secretary. Ashley is spread pretty thin already with her job and she is also on the Mountain Home Lions Board. She stepped in as secretary because one was needed when we formed this committee and she was acting as secretary already. We also feel it would be best to not have a husband and wife on the board together. We would like to make the Secretary an alternate year to flip so that the whole board is not flipping at the same time. In February we will announce this again and take nominations.
Reminder that the deadline to register to vote is February 4th, 2024.
We will adjourn this meeting and meet in our sub-committees and we will plan to do the same in February.
Derek also went over VAN again and showed how helpful this will be to use. We have to do the work this year to go through and update a lot of information in VAN so that for elections going forward the information will be even more useful.
Announcements:
Bob Bodenhamer mentioned that they are going to start scheduling election worker training by Canda Reese & Lindsey. So get ahold of that office if you would like to help.
Update: JoAnn has received information from Lindsey since this meeting. For those wishing to sign up to be an election worker, you will need to sign up by calling Lindsey at 870-580-5602. They are limited training to 25 people per day. The dates are: Jan. 24th, 25th, 26th, or 30th from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the courthouse.
Ashley let everyone know that City Council meetings will be changing to 5:00 p.m. going forward. This is a change from 6:00 p.m.
