Meet The Candidates

We are excited to announce that we have 3 candidates running for Baxter County Quorum Court this year! Learn more about them below!

Derek Huber - JP District #7

Derek Huber has announced his intention to run for election for the District 7 Justice of the Peace seat on the Baxter County Quorum Court. He filed for office yesterday morning.

Huber grew up and was educated locally, as a student of Viola High and then as a graduate of ASUMH. He then obtained his B.S. in business management from Arkansas State University.  He is the owner of Huber Media Co, a local marketing and video production company.“I believe the citizens of District 7, and the citizens of Baxter County as a whole, deserve a JP on the Quorum Court who is a forward thinker. While these races are forced into partisan positions, they shouldn’t be.

The Quorum court is where we go to have discussions on the things that impact our quality our life, our election integrity, and our priorities as a county. I believe in sustainability, I also believe that if you aren’t growing you are stagnating. I’m a strong supporter of our local schools, I’m a strong supporter of local business.

I’m a local business owner myself and I’ve dedicated my career at this point to showing people the magic of Arkansas through my work in video production and photography. My work with Huber Media Co has led me to many discussions with the area’s largest employers, with the movers and shakers of education, workforce development, tourism, and commerce. Our work has won awards showing off the best of what Mountain Home has to offer.

I believe in election integrity and that we have a tried and tested system. I come from a family of mechanics and we believe if it is not broken, don’t fix it. I want to be a voice of reason. Like most Arkansans, I hunt when I can, camp when I can, and spend the rest of my time chasing the American Dream and enjoying married life.

At 38 years old, I would be the youngest JP on the court. I hope to serve the public in a way that can bridge my education, experience, and hustle with the wisdom and experience of the greater court. I’d appreciate your support. Learn more at www.HuberForArkansas.com”

Donnie Huffine - JP District #3

Donnie Huffine announces his plans to run for the position of Justice of the Peace representing District # 3 on the Baxter County Quorum Court.

I am running for this position because I believe in service to my community. I believe in working hard to achieve goals that will improve the lives of those who live and work in District 3 as well as all of Baxter County. I have always been a team player. I am no stranger to hard work and making difficult decisions. Before I retired, I was on someone’s payroll since the age of eight. I started out as a paper boy, delivering a daily newspaper to the folks in my community. I have been a shop manager with 120 employees and five supervisors, with an annual budget of over 25 million dollars, so I know how to manage the needs of employees and how to spend money efficiently. I ended my career as a manufacturing engineer with a skill set for getting jobs done and goals accomplished.

My wife Glenda and I have been married for 48 years. We have three daughters and three granddaughters, so I am well aware of the struggles of working people trying to support a family.

If elected, I look forward to working with the County Judge, elected county officials, and members of the Quorum Court. My goal is to provide a safe and prosperous working environment for all county employees as well as apply my skill sets to properly maintain the assets, roads, bridges, and equipment of Baxter County.
If you want a hard-working, qualified individual as District 3, Justice of the Peace, I would appreciate your support.

Thank you!
Donnie Huffine

Johhny Rickman - JP District #2

Johnny Rickman is announcing his intention to run for Justice of the Peace in the 2nd district of Baxter County.

Johnny has been a lifelong resident of Arkansas and spent the majority of his career in civil service. He retired to Baxter County from Jonesboro just over 10 years ago for the wonderful lakes. He has an impressive resume having worked for the city of Jonesboro, serving in the Arkansas National Guard and retiring as a firefighter. "As a retired firefighter, I am greatly concerned about the future of our rural fire departments. Of course, every JP should have the budget as a number one concern. I'm a strong supporter of our school system and safe schools for our families. In my career, I have seen that growth is contagious and not something we should fear but work to reap the benefits from. There's been a lot of attention on our voting systems and the recent audits have given me the confidence that we do have election integrity in Baxter County." - Johnny Rickman

Johnny is a regular at city council and quorum court meetings and believes that in government, everything starts locally. Outside of work and volunteer service, Johnny enjoys chasing crappies, hunting, and spending time with family.
